Help

In an effort to improve the security of Dominican University's network, we are implementing new network password requirements and a new Password Management System. This system will give you the ability to securely manage your DU network password in a self-service fashion. This includes the ability to unlock a forgotten password through the use of challenge questions and answers.

New Password Management System

Please take this opportunity to enroll in the Password Management System. You need to specify a set of private questions and answers to authenticate your identity in case you forget your password or your account becomes locked out. You can enroll in the Password Management System by completing the following these steps:

o    Navigate to http://mypassword.dom.edu

This application will take you through several steps to complete the password reset process. Please make sure that you complete all the required steps. Click the "Begin Password Reset Process >" button below to get started. Please don't use your browser's Back or Forward buttons during the password reset process. If you have any question regarding thisapplication, contact the IT Helpdesk at 708-524-6 888.

Identity verification questions are used when you want to reset your password or unlock your account. Please follow these guidelines on picking reliable, guess-proof answers. A good answer:
  • Must not be obvious
  • Should be preferably not known by any other parties
  • Must be at least 5 characters long
  • Must not be same answer for different questions
  • Must not be substring of the question
  • NOTE: the answers are NOT case-sensitive
New Network Password Complexity Requirements

What is your network password? From on-campus, your network username and password logs you into computers and printers (to release print jobs). From off-campus, they are used to log you into the library databases and for N : and I : drive access.

Effective November 2, 2010, new or changed network passwords will need to comply with the following requirements:

o    Password Length

·         Minimum password length is eight characters

·         Maximum password length is sixteen characters

o    Password Complexity

·         Contain characters from three of the following four categories:

§  English uppercase characters (A through Z)

§  English lowercase characters (a through z)

§  Base 10 digits (0 through 9)

§  Non-alphabetic characters (for example, ! , $, #, %)

·         Not contain the user's entire Account Name or entire Full Name. The Account Name and Full Name are parsed for delimiters: commas, periods, dashes or hyphens, underscores, spaces, pound signs, and tabs. If any of these delimiters are found, the Account Name or Full Name are split and all sections are verified not to be included in the password. There is no check for any character or any three characters in succession.

o    Password History

·         You may not reuse any of your last three passwords

Please note that existing passwords are not affected by these requirements. The requirements only affect passwords added or changed on or after Nov. 1, 2010.

New Password Expiration Requirements

Beginning in February, 2011, network passwords will be required to be changed every 365 days. However, there is no reason why you can't change your password today. Your changed password will be valid for 365 days from the date you change it. In fact, we recommend that you change your password every six months.

New Password Lockout Policy

Beginning in February, 2011, a network password lockout policy will go into effect. Making 6 attempts within 2 minutes with an incorrect password will cause the account to lock for a 15 minute period beyond the final attempt to login. You can unlock your own account using the Dominican University Password Management System at  http://mypassword.dom.edu  .
