1. Web Publishing Policies 
Dominican University’s web site supports and promotes the school’s mission

Any person who publishes on the Dominican University web site agrees to all provisions of the policies and procedures. By publishing on the Dominican University web site, a person agrees to comply with all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations. Dominican University reserves the right to remove any web pages or links to information in violation of the policies and procedures defined herein.

Dominican University’s web site is managed by the Office of Marketing and Communications and the Information Technology department. The first point of contact is the Office of Marketing and Communications.

 

2. Pages on the web

A. Official University Web Pages
Official University Web Pages include

  • the Dominican University homepage (www2.dom.edu);
  • academic department and program pages;
  • office, administrative, and support unit pages;
  • news and information pages; and any other World Wide Web address that is otherwise sponsored or endorsed or created on authority of a university department or administrative unit, including course pages residing outside the secure course management system.
B. Unofficial Web Pages
Unofficial Web Pages are web pages maintained by individual university computer account holders on university servers, such as
  • personal faculty and staff web pages,
  • individual student web pages, and
  • university recognized student organization web pages.

C. Personal pages
The university makes wb space available to students, faculty and staff. These sites must contain the following statement on their homepage:

“The views and opinions expressed on all personal web pages are strictly those of the authors and have not been approved by Dominican University.”

All individual web pages must contain the name and e-mail address of the person responsible for page content. Individuals are responsible for maintaining their own site with regards to page building, content and troubleshooting. Dominican cannot provide development support through the content management system nor through Web Services or Marketing Communications.

Maintenance of personal pages
The designated page owner is responsible for maintaining the pages. Dominican University is not responsible for developing, monitoring, or maintaining pages published by individual faculty, students or staff members.

D. Student organizations
Dominican University makes web space available for recognized student groups. A student group may have only one web site. The site must be updated regularly.

E. Procedural Matters
   E1. Use of Dominican Name, Seal, and Logos 
Contact the Office of Marketing and Communications for information concerning logo usage. A logo should never be broken up, re-proportioned, or altered in any form when used on the Web.          

   E 2. Outsourcing
All campus units must gain approval from the Web Management Committee prior to contracting with external organizations to develop or host Web sites. 

   
E3. Advertising 
Advertising, either commercial or for the purpose of generating revenue for third-party organizations is not permitted on any Dominican Web site without the written authorization of the Web Management Committee. 

   E4. Web Site Applications and Code 
Web publishers must consult with OMC before attempting to add any executable code, scripts, or applications to the university web server. Adding executable code, scripts or applications carries potential security concerns.
