How-To Connect to a DU Wireless Network

Before you begin...

  • Make sure that the wireless function of your computer is turned on.
  • If your wireless function is turned on, then one of two things will happen…
    1. Your computer may automatically detect the presence of a wireless network if there is one nearby
    2. You may need to tell your computer to look for an available network

A) Attaching to an Auto-detected network

  1. If your computer auto-detects a wireless network, you should see a message similar to the one shown below.
2. Click on the “Wireless Networks Detected” message and you will then see a window similar to the one below, asking you to choose the desired network.

3. If there is more than one network name listed, select the network that has the strongest signal (indicated by the bars to the right of the network name) and click the “Connect” button.
Note: If you are a member of a private network, select the network that you have permission to access. After clicking “Connect”, you’ll be prompted to enter a password. There are no private wireless networks at DU at this time.

4.  You may see the following message:

This is telling you that you are entering a public network. Simply click the “Connect Anyway” button.

5.  Within approximately 30 seconds after clicking “Connect”, the status of the network that you selected will change to “Connected” (See below)

B. Manually Selecting a Wireless Network

If you do not see a prompt similar to that shown in Step 1 above, you will need to manually locate a network.

1.  Move your mouse over the wireless networking icon in the system tray (located in the lower right-hand corner of your screen) and right-click.

2.  Select “View Available Wireless Networks”

3.  Continue from Step 2 in the previous section of this guide.
