Residence Hall

Network Policy

All of the Residence Hall rooms at Dominican University are provided with a direct connection to the main campus network.   This will allow each student who owns the appropriate equipment to use e-mail and the Internet from his or her room at any time as well as many other services. This is currently a free service and there will be no additional charge to the students for the use of the network connection. The policy governing the use of this service is outlined below.

Responsibility

  • All use of Dominican University network resources, including but not limited to, web page content, will be subject to the Campus Code of Conduct, Residence Life Guide and Dominican University disciplinary procedures. The resident student is further responsible for anyone else, i.e. guests, who use the network connection for malicious activity.
  • Activities which will degrade the quality of the network's operation are strictly prohibited and may result in the termination of network privileges.
  • Any personal computer connected to the Dominican University network is expected to have up-to-date anti-virus software loaded and the latest Windows security patches installed.  Dominican University’s Anti-Virus software is Free for all Students .
  • As a resident of Dominican University, each user is responsible for the use of their network connection and for any information or transactions that may occur through it.
  • Dominican University is not responsible for any damage or perceived damage to student owned equipment, including but not limited to, software viruses and power surges.
  • Dominican University reserves the right to revoke network privileges at any time, at the discretion of the University.
  • While the maintenance of the network infrastructure is the responsibility of Dominican University, the ability of an individual student’s computer to connect to the network is neither guaranteed nor is it the responsibility of the University.
  • Resident students are responsible for any information shared within the computer network system.   Dominican University is not responsible for the integrity or confidentiality of information transmitted via the network.

Supported Hardware

  • Dominican University will support both the Windows and Macintosh platforms. Other systems may be introduced after consulting with Information Technology.
  • The University will only provide technical support for University owned software and equipment. Dominican University will not install NIC cards or any other hardware.
  • Important Note: Conventional modems are not compatible with the phone system in the Dominican University Residence Halls and will not operate.
