What is SPCS?
The School of Professional & Continuing Studies (SPCS) undergraduate program is designed specifically for students who have been out of high school at least seven years before entering Dominican University, who have some college work and who desire to complete their bachelor's degree in an accelerated format. Additionally, Dominican University offers several exciting masters degree programs in which you may be interested. These degrees are also offered in an accelerated format for busy adult learners.

What is the purpose of the accelerated program?
The purpose of the accelerated degree program is to provide adult learners the opportunity to complete an undergraduate or graduate degree in an accelerated format compatible with their personal and professional needs.
What will this degree do for me?
A bachelor's degree can lead to career advancement and may lead to higher overall earnings in your lifetime. This degree does not guarantee advancement or higher earning potential, but it does offer you an opportunity to develop and fine-tune your skills which ultimately will enhance your performance in your chosen field as well as the prospect of being able to change your career path with greater ease.
A Masters degree will offer you personal fulfillment, possible career advancement or afford you the opportunity for a career change.

Is SPCS right for me?
Completing your degree or pursuing a masters degree is a major decision. It affects not only you and your lifestyle, but perhaps your family and their lifestyles. You should be aware that earning this degree will require hard work and will likely involve the restructuring of some of your other priorities. We take care in structuring our program to make it easier to blend school in with your other obligations.
What degrees are offered?
We currently offer the Master of Arts in Family Ministry and Faith Development (MFM); a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies (BLS) taught exclusively on line which began in February 2012. We have recently added a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services, delivered both online and in person. In August 2013, the first on ground classes in the BLS program were launched under a partnership with Triton College to help adult students complete their second degree through Dominican, but on the Triton campus. The BHS degree is also offered on the Triton Campus, also leading to a Dominican University degree. New accelerated classes, 8 weeks in length, begin every semester. A new Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution (MCR) was also launched in May 2012. The MCR requires 2 five day in-person intensives, one at the beginning of the program and one at the mid-point of the coursework. All other classes are accelerated, offered over 8 weeks, and taught on line.
Dominican University has in the past awarded accelerated degrees such as the Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership. We have been offering quality adult learning degrees for decades.

What is the course format?
All three-semester credit hour courses in the undergraduate program are completed in eight-week sessions. At the graduate level, all courses run for 8 weeks (with the exception of a few hybrid or in-person classes). Nine sessions are scheduled each year. Courses normally "meet" once a week. The academic focus is on current, real-world applied knowledge and techniques.
The MFM, which offers classes in a cohort format, has a summer intensive component for three consecutive summers which is then supplemented by online classes throughout the rest of the year.
